About the event
The Dawn Chorus is one of the most beautiful events of the natural world, so come and learn what it is all about. This walk will take you through the Swettenham Valley where our knowledgeable guide will help you get to grips with the trills, tweets and warbles of our avian residents. The reserve has loads to offer, from the two-tone call of chiffchaffs, to the harsh calls of whitethroats, we can expect to hear up to 25 different species during the walk, maybe pushing over 30 if we have a bit of luck. We will also see a variety of habitats and the different wildlife they each hold. We will stop in our recently restored wildflower meadow for a hot drink and a croissant with jam to fuel us for the second half of our walk. Whether you just want to listen and enjoy, or if you want to learn to separate your blackcaps from your garden warblers, there is something for everyone on this walk.
The terrain is steep in places, so a general level of fitness and mobility is needed. Families are welcome, but under 18's will need an adult with them for the duration of the event. You will need to wrap up warm as it might well be cold at the start of the walk. Outdoor footwear and weather appropriate clothing will be needed. Hot drinks and some food will be provided half way around the walk, but please bring additional food and drink if you feel you might need it. Please let us know of any dietary requirements (vegan) or intolerances (gluten, etc.) or allergies so that we can provide a suitable alternative of food and drink for you.
