Rewilding Stockport project awarded for their community work

Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s Rewilding Stockport project has won the Environmental Project Award for their hard work and dedication to connecting communities to nature in Stockport and bringing wildlife back to people’s doorsteps.

Rewilding Stockport is a two-year project delivered by Cheshire Wildlife Trust and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Trust wants to create 1,000 spaces for nature across Stockport by April 2024.

The project was nominated through the Stockport's Women’s and Girls Network and was recognised by the  award at the Make a Difference Community Awards 2023 in March.

Eve Taylor, Senior Rewilding Stockport Officer for Cheshire Wildlife Trust was delighted with the recognition the project received and dedicated the award to the people of Stockport: “Myself, Rachael and Naomi are accepting this award on behalf of all the communities, groups, schools, businesses and individuals we have worked with for the past two years of this project. We would not have a project without you. Everything we have achieved is due to their ongoing enthusiasm and resilience. It is wonderful to be in my hometown, working with people who have incredible stories and such a passion for giving back and improving their local area. I am honoured to be included in this network and I look forward to supporting more people in making Stockport a Wilder town.”

The Trust will be running more activities and events to encourage people to take action for pollinators, swifts and hedgehogs. Their Get Stockport Buzzin' Challenge is to re-launch later on this year, so if you want to grab a packet of wildflower seed or belong to a school who wish to take up the challenge and get some resource packs for your class, get in touch with Eve Taylor at: etaylor@cheshirewt.org.uk

The team are always on the lookout for Swift and Hedgehog champions who are up for rallying their neighbours into creating a network of wildlife-friendly gardens that have access and homes for these wonderful creatures.

If you think you are, or would like to be a local champion for wildlife, please get in touch with the Trust and work together for nature’s recovery in Stockport.
