Swettenham Valley Land Purchase Update

Swettenham Valley Land Purchase Update

The auction for the additional land near our existing reserve at Swettenham took place yesterday. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in our bid for the land. We were overwhelmed with the support we received from everyone for the Swettenham Valley Land Purchase appeal - which raised a total of £24,227 in only 74 days. However, despite the guide price of £10,000 – £20,000 for the 2.5-acre plot of land, it was sold for £33,000, more than we were able to afford.

But our vision for the Swettenham Valley is far from over. We will reach out to our new neighbours as soon as possible to see if we can work with them to protect the wildlife on this site.

We are also keen to look at other ways we might be able to extend our nature reserve in the valley including working with other landowners and looking to purchase more land should it become available. Whilst continuing to manage our site, Swettenham Meadows and The Quinta nature reserve, so that wildlife can thrive.

We’d like to thank everyone for their support. The donations we received will help us in these vitally important efforts to extend our nature reserve and protect the wildlife and wild places of the Swettenham Valley. If you would like to talk to us about this, please do get in touch with our fundraising team by emailing Jo Darlington at jdarlington@cheshirewt.org.uk or calling her on 01948 820728.

Despite yesterday’s outcome, it is wonderful to see how quickly a community can come together to share in a vision for a wilder Cheshire. With your help, we can do more for wildlife in the Swettenham Valley. Thank you again for your incredible support.
