Transform a Wasted Space

Submit a wasted space

We need more green space.

Not only for the sake of our wildlife, but also so that we can thrive too. Spending time in green spaces, in nature, is good for our physical and mental health – it's proven by science and is even prescribed by the NHS, for a range of mental health disorders.

The problem is that one in eight households have no garden and rely entirely on public open spaces, and there are not enough quality green spaces in our urban areas. We need more wild, green, natural spaces for our mental health, for our communities and for our wildlife.

You can help!

There are lots of wasted spaces in our towns and cities, we've all seen them - abandoned patches of land, over-mown areas of grass, litter strewn verges or bin lined alleyways.  These are little lands of opportunity – wasted spaces just waiting to become special places.

Find a space and pin it on the map.

The first step is to identify a space you’ve spotted and pin it on our map using the button below. Once you’ve done this we will be in contact, providing you with practical ideas and advice on everything from finding out who owns the space, acquiring funding through to which plants to choose and what animal or bird species to look for. It can be surprising where nature can thrive and sometimes spaces that look neglected can already be home to all sorts of species. So we’ll also help you to understand your space and figure out what is already living there. This will help you set off on the right foot from the start.

The power to make the transformation rests in your hands and we want to help you seize it. You could you be part of turning it in to something better, something that benefits local people and local wildlife.  By taking this first step you are joining a movement, a network of individuals whose actions are supporting nature's recovery. The video below is just one of many stories from across Cheshire.  Each one started with a desire to do something to bring wildlife back.

Let’s make Cheshire wilder, together.
