In May 2024 the Trust announced that they had bought the 30-acre site, on the edge of the Peak District, thanks to generous donations to a public appeal. The public are now being invited to sponsor 3m x 3m squares of land at the reserve to support their work bringing wildlife back to the site.
You’ll receive a digital certificate with the exact location of your unique square and you can dedicate it with a message to something or someone you love. It’s the perfect gift for someone who loves wildlife or a great way to mark a special occasion or milestone, such as a birthday, marriage or anniversary. It could even be a truly unique Mother's Day gift.
Greenbooth Nature Reserve is a beautiful wild place, located in a secluded part of the Peak District National Park, between Whaley Bridge, Buxton and Rainow. Surrounded by Local Wildlife Sites to the north and west and the Goyt Valley Site of Special Scientific Interest to the east, Greenbooth Nature Reserve sits in the heart of a landscape peppered with pockets of acid grassland, heathland and clough woodland.
By donating £45 and dedicating a square at Greenbooth, you’ll be part of bringing wildlife back to this beautiful place. The Trusts plans for the site include:
-
Enhancing the grassland mosaic for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
-
Creating features that benefit waders and ground nesting birds, like curlew and lapwing which are known to breed close to the site.
-
Creating woodland and scattered scrub along the steeper valley sides, providing food and shelter for mammals and birds, like tawny owls.
-
Restoring field boundaries to ensure the character of the landscape is preserved.
-
Continuing to work in partnership with neighbouring farmers and landowners to further our work in our Pennine Fringe living landscape.
