About the event

The Liverpool Combined Authority wants to build a tidal barrage across the River Mersey. Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Lancashire Wildlife Trust are teaming up to sound the alarm.

With an application expected in Summer 2026, the next year will be crucial as the Liverpool Combined Authority assembles the facts and evidence on the barrage’s impact. While it might be tempting to wait and see what happens, it is important that climate campaigners and nature lovers understand the risks and unknowns as early as possible. We need to make sure the right studies are carried out and that they are done to the highest possible standard to make sure any potential damage is understood.

We will talk about the basics of how tidal barrages can operate, show you the modelled impacts of similar schemes in the UK and of course discuss the potential impact of the barrage for climate and nature. Whether you are concerned about the destruction of habitats, the flood implications for local communities or simply want to understand the challenges of such a scheme, please join us for this introductory webinar for the climate conscious and wildlife enthusiasts.
