Help Shape the Financial Future of Nature in Cheshire

Location: Remote with occasional meetings in Cheshire (UK)

Time Commitment: Attendance to 7 meetings per year plus the AGM and occasional ad hoc meetings.  Average commitment of approximately 4-6 hours per month.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust is seeking a Deputy Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and support the financial governance of one of the region’s leading conservation charities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with financial experience who wants to use their skills to help protect wildlife and inspire people to value the natural world.

Working closely with the Treasurer, Chief Executive, and Finance team, the Deputy Treasurer will play an important role in ensuring strong financial oversight while helping guide the Trust’s long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Treasurer in overseeing the Trust’s financial governance and strategy.
  • Review management accounts, budgets, and financial reports presented to the Board.
  • Contribute to financial planning, risk management, and reserves policy discussions.
  • Provide advice and constructive challenge to ensure sound financial decision-making.
  • Step in for the Treasurer when required at Board or Finance Committee meetings.
  • Help ensure compliance with charity finance regulations and best practice.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from people with a range of financial backgrounds. Ideally you will have:

  • Experience in finance, accounting, audit, or financial management.
  • An understanding of financial governance and risk.
  • The ability to analyse financial information and communicate insights clearly.
  • Strategic thinking and a collaborative approach to decision-making.
  • An interest in environmental conservation and the mission of the Trust.

A professional accounting qualification is welcome but not essential.
