Job ref: CWTDane17

We are looking for an energetic individual to work with landowners in the south west Peak District to help manage water quality.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust has partnered with United Utilities to provide its customers with some of the purest water in the country. This catchment management scheme aims to lower the risks of contamination of raw water at source, reducing the need for treatment processes and bringing wider benefits to nature at the same time. What is good for water is good for wildlife and we need someone motivated to realise all the benefits that this initiate offers.

The role will see you working in the upper Dane Valley catchment area, south of Macclesfield, on the edge of the Peak District National Park. As the Catchment Advisor you will have day-to-day contact with farmers and landowners, supporting and advising them on resource protection, pesticide use and nutrient management planning to minimise diffuse pollution of watercourses.

You will also manage community events, workshops, community meetings, farmers meetings, students and other local stakeholder groups and where applicable deliver practical works on the ground that deliver water quality and biodiversity improvements. You will additionally collect data from farms and use this data and your knowledge to help the farmers understand how they could reduce pollution and save money. The role will include the collection of water samples throughout the year to help target effective advice and implementation on the ground.

The role is a great opportunity for you to use your agricultural knowledge to help solve a real problem facing the water industry, whilst promoting and engaging our local Dane Valley community in sustainable agriculture. We are looking for someone with hands-on farming knowledge, who has experience engaging with landowners and working with them to achieve common goals

Part-time (0.6 FTE) to end March 2020.

Closing date: Sunday 14th January.

Interviews will take place on Monday 29th January.
