Our vision for the Swettenham Valley could be one step closer on 26th April. But we urgently need your support – can you help?

In 2016 we set out an ambitious vision to connect two of our nature reserves

(Swettenham Meadows and The Quinta) and create one large haven for wildlife within the Swettenham Valley, near Congleton.

This month an exciting opportunity has arisen that could take us one step closer to achieving this goal. A 2.5 acre plot of land, directly adjacent to our Swettenham Meadows nature reserve, is now for sale and will be auctioned on 26th April. Can you help us buy it?

The area comprises a mosaic of wildlife rich habitats including veteran trees, ponds and wet woodland. If successful we would carry out restoration work on the land to remove invasive species and restore the ponds on the site

This is a vital piece of the jigsaw if we are to one day create a valuable wildlife corridor in which species can move freely through the valley.

Wildlife that will benefit include:

  • our 14 resident species of butterfly such as the small copper, small skipper and ringlet
  • many under threat birds such as song thrushes, willow warblers, starlings and tree sparrows.

Can you help us rise to this challenge?

We need to raise £10,000 by Thursday 26th April - so please act today!

A huge thank you to everybody who has donated to the appeal. We're nearly there!

From £10 to £1,000 - whatever the size of your donation - you could help us secure this vital piece of the jigsaw and protect wildlife in Cheshire.

If you would prefer to donate over the phone call 01948 820728 or post a cheque to Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Bickley Hall Farm, Malpas, Cheshire, SY14 8EF.

If we aren’t successful in purchasing this land, or if we raise more than we need to buy the land, donations will be used to support conservation work in the Swettenham Valley including any future land purchases in this area.

UPDATE - The auction was originally going to be held on Tuesday 20th February but the auction house has notified us that the land will now be auctioned on Thursday 26th April.

With your help, we can do it!
