Planting your pollinator patch!

Have you received some wildflower seeds from the Rewilding Stockport team?
If not, get in touch with Eve Taylor - Etaylor@cheshirewt.org.uk to find out how to collect your free seeds.

Once you receive your seeds, here are some instructions on how to use them:

How to plant your seeds in a pot or container:
Plant your seeds in spring or late summer

  1. Make drainage holes in your pot or container, drill 0.5 -1cm diameter holes into the bottom of the pot about 15cm apart.
  2. Fill the bottom of the container with a layer of rocks.
  3. Fill the container with peat free compost, don't push down the soil to compact it, just pick up the container and tap on the ground to even out the soil.
  4. Sprinkle your seeds thinly and evenly on the surface of the soil. Then cover with one centimetre of your soil/compost mix.
  5. Water them well.

How to look after your container meadow:

  • Place your pot in a sunny spot and water weekly.
  • Once the flowers have bloomed and faded, leave them to go to seed. You can collect the seeds and use them for another pot.
  • Once you've collected the seed, you can cut back the plant growth to around 2.5 centimetres high.

Your plants will flower at different times, depending on what's in your chosen seed mix. Some plants might not flower until the second year.
