Our beaver kits have names

In July, Cheshire Wildlife Trust announced the arrival of three new beaver kits at Hatchmere Nature Reserve. This now brings the total number of beavers as part of the Delamere Beaver Project to seven!

Following the announcement, Cheshire Wildlife Trust members and supporters of their beaver fundraising appeal suggested names for the pair. From a list of almost 350 names Kev Feeney, Wetland Programme Manager, picked his top fifteen and let the public pick their favourites.

Almost 400 people voted and the winning names for the pair have been decided: Bracken, Maple and Swampy.

Our Senior Living Landscapes Officer Kev Feeney says “It’s fantastic to see people share our excitement about the news of our new kits and the growing family at Hatchmere. We had so many brilliant names submitted, it was tricky to narrow it down to just fifteen! I’m really happy with the names that the public have picked. Bracken, Maple and Swampy will now be settling into family life with the rest of the beaver family and getting ready for winter at Hatchmere. We’ll be keeping an eye on our wildlife cameras for more footage of the family to share with everyone”.

There are now a family of seven beavers at the Delamere Beaver Project; Rowan and Willow (adults), Bramble, Aspen, Bracken, Maple and Swampy.
