In Wilmslow, stunning wildflower meadows are must-see features in the open gardens at Bollin House and Well House. Visitors to Bollin House can also enjoy a formal garden, orchard and vegetable garden with wonderful views across to Alderley Edge. Well House offers a shady woodland walk, formal borders and lush herbaceous planting.
In the villages of Plumley and Lower Peover, near Knutsford, ten gardens are opening for Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
Garden enthusiasts will be inspired by a wide variety of features here including wildflower meadows, kitchen gardens, woodland walks and water features. As well as lots of local wildlife, there will also be ornamental fowl and alpacas to see.
A vintage bus service will be running between selected gardens in Plumley and Lower Peover and further details will be available on arrival.
“These special open garden events will make a fantastic day out for garden lovers this weekend. From cottage gardens to large country house gardens, there will be so much to see. The garden owners will be on hand to talk to visitors and we’d like to say a big thank you to all of them for supporting the Trust in this way,” said Jo Darlington, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
Cheshire Wildlife Trust runs a ‘Wildlife Friendly Gardening Award’ scheme, of which all twelve gardens are proud recipients. “The scheme is open to everyone. It doesn’t matter how big or small the outdoor space, as long as it is possible to showcase what has been done to help wildlife,” said Jo Darlington. “This might be through creating a mini wildflower meadow, avoiding using harmful chemicals or building insect hotels.”
Entries to the scheme receive a plaque, certificate and gardening booklet. Further details about the ‘Wildlife Friendly Gardening Award’ and how to enter can be found here.
The Plumley and Lower Peover gardens are open on Sunday 1st July from midday to 5.00pm. Tickets/garden maps will be available from Sycamore Lodge, Back Lane, Lower Peover WA16 9SQ and from Plumley Cottage, Plumley Moor, Plumley, WA16 9QU.
Tickets are £7 on the gate (under 16s are free) for entry to all ten gardens. All proceeds from the entrance fees will support the work of Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
Bollin House and Well House are open on Sunday 1st July from 10.30am – 4,.30pm. Bollin House is located in Hollies Lane, Wilmslow SK9 2BW. Well House is in Dean Row Road, Wilmslow, SK9 2BU. Parking will be available at the Unicorn Pub for Well House and at the house, Hollies Lane or Browns Lane for Bollin House.
Tickets are £6.50 on the day (under 16s are free) for entry to both gardens. Proceeds will be split between the National Garden Scheme and Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
