Get ready to explore the beach, learn about the local wildlife, and participate in hands-on activities. This event is perfect for children and families looking to connect with nature and each other. - Booking is essential!

Description:

The event invites children and their parents to join us for a morning of outdoor exploration and education.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore the beach
  • Learn about local wildlife and habitats.
  • Engage in hands-on activities.

It’s a chance to connect with nature and each other, creating lasting memories.

This event is open to all ages and is family friendly. We kindly request that all children are always accompanied by a responsible adult.

The nearest facilities are at Thurstaston visitors centre where there is also a cafe if you need to purchase any food. We do recommend bringing some snacks and a drink to keep your energy levels up.

The initial meeting point will be at the Thurstaston Visitors Centre, Wirral Country Park (near the duck pond and outside the bike rental shop). From here we will head down to the beach together to carry out our Shoresearch activity.

Parking is available at Wirral Country Park pay & display. It is charged at £1/ hour or £5 all day. The visitors centre is also accessible straight off the Wirral Way by bike and foot.

Activities:

Activities will be based on the season and what naturally occurs on the beach.

Examples include:

  • Mud dipping.
  • Scavenger hunting.
  • Foraged/sand art
  • Identifiying and observing local wildlife and key features.

The learning experiences will be adapted to children’s interests, seasonal changes, and weather conditions.

Important information:

Children must be supervised by their caregivers throughout the entire session.

Access down to Thurstaston shore is via steps only. The steps are steep and footpath surfaces are uneven and often wet underfoot. This therefore may not be suitable for people with mobility issues.

What to bring

Dress appropriately for the beach and weather:

  • Sturdy boots or wellies.
  • Warm and waterproof clothing.
  • Hats and gloves (if it’s cold).
  • Sun hat and sunscreen (if it’s hot).
  • Snack breaks are planned, so bring something to enjoy during the session.
