Strandline search - a family friendly event at Talacre
About the event
Join Our Dee Estuary for Shoresearch down at Talacre.
Shoresearch is suitable for all ages and gives you a chance to learn about species that you may see on your shoreline.
Expect to get stuck in (and maybe a little muddy) and find all kinds of exciting plants and animals from seaweeds, to shark egg cases and crabs. Identifying the organisms we find on the shoreline allows us to develop an understanding of how well the Dee Estuary is supporting nature and wildlife.
This event is open to all ages, individuals and families. We kindly request that all children are always accompanied by a responsible adult. No prior marine knowledge is necessary.
We will bring buckets, sample trays and identification guides and our staff will be on hand to help you to identify anything you find.
There are no toilet facilities once we’re down on the coast.
Unfortunately, deep sand make this location not accessible for all. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding this.
If you have a smartphone, you may wish to download the Shoresearch App, produced by The Wildlife Trusts, for Apple here or for Android here. The App can help speed up data recording but is not essential.
The initial meeting point will be at the pay and display carpark at Gamfa Wen - Gamfa Wen Carpark, Talacre, Holywell CH8, UK (£2 all day or 20p/hr). We will walk from there to the beach where the survey will take place.
Please be aware that due to the outdoor nature of this event, that severe weather may cause cancellations at late notice.
We look forwarding to meeting you!
