Today, on World Photography Day, Cheshire Wildlife Trust has unveiled the winners of its 2027 calendar photography competition.

The competition, launched earlier this year, invited aspiring photographers to submit striking images of wildlife and natural landscapes across Cheshire, Halton, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Warrington and Wirral. More than 500 submissions were received, reflecting the rich diversity and beauty of the region’s wildlife. 12 standout images have been selected alongside 12 runners-up to feature in the Trust’s highly anticipated fundraising calendar, now available for pre-orders.

The photographic submissions were reviewed by the Fundraising and Communications teams at Cheshire Wildlife Trust, who selected 12 winners and 12 runners up. The winning images featured a range of wildlife from across the region including a grass snake, a brown hare and a group of long-tailed tits. All 24 images will appear in the 2027 calendar. Cheshire Wildlife Trust staff voted to select the eventual winner; a stunning image of a 7-spot ladybird on a bonnet mushroom, taken by Munier Hossain in Didsbury. The photo will appear on the front cover of the 2027 calendar.

The calendar is now available to pre-order for £10, with all proceeds supporting vital work to restore and protect nature across Cheshire.

Rachael Nellist, Senior Communications Officer at Cheshire Wildlife Trust says:

"We're really excited to announce the winners of our competition, especially on World Photography Day! We've absolutely loved looking through all the entries to this year's photography competition. Every image celebrates the incredible wildlife and wild places we have right here on our doorstep in Cheshire. From cuddling long-tailed tits and basking grass snakes to ladybirds perched on mushrooms, the creativity and quality of the photographs has been outstanding.

This year, staff from across Cheshire Wildlife Trust helped choose the overall winning image from the shortlisted photographs. With so many stunning entries, it certainly wasn't an easy decision, but we're delighted with the final selection and can't wait for everyone to enjoy the images in our 2027 calendar.

Our wildlife calendar has become a favourite for so many people, and it's inspiring to know these beautiful images help connect people with the wildlife on their doorstep throughout the year. Every calendar sold also raises vital funds for our conservation work, helping us protect and restore nature across Cheshire. The calendar sells quickly each year, so we'd encourage everyone to pre-order their copy before they're gone.”
