Gardening Event Volunteer

Gardening Event Volunteer

Location:
Various locations across Cheshire, Various locations across Cheshire
We need keen volunteers to host our stall at garden events and talk to people about the things they can do for wildlife at home.

Our aims
Nature is facing a threefold crisis with the combined threats of the loss of biodiversity, the climate crisis and people’s disconnect from nature. As part of our new strategy for the next decade, we need to inspire widespread action on every front if we are to help nature recover. To make this happen, 1 in 4 people need to be inspired to do something for the environment – that’s around 600,000 people across our region.

Wild About Gardens
The Wildlife Trust is partnered with RHS as a champion of wildlife-friendly gardening. Every year we work to promote changes that people can make at home to make their garden better for wildlife. It could be as simple as leaving a wild patch, as easy as installing a hedgehog highway or as bold as growing a wildflower meadow.

Throughout the year we attend a mix of events, from private gardens who host a public open day to big shows like RHS Tatton. We need keen volunteers to host our stall and talk to people about the things they can do for wildlife at home.
We also have a newly launched wild garden starter pack that we’d like to promote to people. This is aimed at people who need a bit of a helping hand when it comes to helping wildlife.

With an estimated 24 million gardens in the UK, covering an area bigger than our national parks, our gardens have enormous potential when it comes to helping nature recover.

This role involves:
• Attending ‘open garden’ events during summer months
• Attending one day at RHS Tatton and other shows
• Talking to people about the benefits of making your garden great for wildlife
• Offering gardening tips and advice
• Promoting our wild garden starter kit
• Helping create a stall display

This role suits someone who:
• likes meeting new people
• has naturally green fingers
• loves helping wildlife at home
• is creative and can make a good stall display
• is reliable, proactive and passionate about wildlife

This voluntary role offers:
This is a fantastic volunteering opportunity to offer your skills to help share your gardening skills with people all over the county. The role offers free admission to all events on the days you attend and allows you to help other people make a difference for wildlife at home.

Support and Training:
We will support this role through an induction that’ll equip you with everything you need to know about running the stall.

Other things to know:
If you’re interested and have the skills required, we’ll invite you to a Zoom chat.
Cheshire Wildlife Trust is a charity so we can’t pay all expenses for volunteers. In special circumstances, some travel expenses might be paid. These cases can be discussed with the Campaigns Officer in advance.
