The people of Cheshire have been voting to pick names for Cheshire’s newest beavers… and the votes are in!

In July this year, the Trust announced the birth of three baby beavers, known as kits. Following the announcement, Cheshire Wildlife Trust members and supporters of their beaver fundraising appeal suggested names. From a list of almost 350 names Kev Feeney, Wetland Programme Manager, picked his top fifteen and let the public pick their favourites.

Almost 400 people voted and the winning names for the pair have been decided: Bracken, Maple and Swampy.

Our Senior Living Landscapes Officer Kev Feeney says “It’s fantastic to see people share our excitement about the news of our new kits and the growing family at Hatchmere. We had so many brilliant names submitted, it was tricky to narrow it down to just fifteen! I’m really happy with the names that the public have picked. Bracken, Maple and Swampy are settling into family life with the rest of the beaver family and getting ready for winter at Hatchmere. We’ll be keeping an eye on our wildlife cameras for more footage of the family to share with everyone”.

There is now a family of seven beavers at the Delamere Beaver Project: Rowan and Willow (adults), Bramble, Aspen, Bracken, Maple and Swampy. Cheshire Wildlife Trust posts regular updates about the Hatchmere beaver project on their social media channels and in their weekly e-newsletter. You can sign up at www.cheshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/e-newsletter or find them on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok. They even have a special beaver playlist on their YouTube channel which features Aspen and Bramble settling into their new home.
