Dee Estuary, various locations along the English and Welsh sides of the Dee Estuary
We’re looking for citizen science volunteers to help survey coastal species around the Dee Estuary.

Volunteers will work with us and our partners to help us learn more about the distribution and populations of rare coastal species such as natterjack toads and grayling butterflies and add to our understanding of important intertidal habitat. This increased understanding will help guide habitat management activities to support these rare species and habitats.
The role involves:
- Working in a team alongside other volunteers and people from wildlife groups and organisations around the estuary followed by independent working should you wish to.
- Being outdoors in a variety of weathers.
- The use of surveying equipment.
- Travel to locations around the estuary.
- The option to get involved in one or more of the following surveys.
Natterjack toad surveys involve:
- Surveying alongside an expert to develop skills and experience followed by independent surveys should you wish to.
- Surveying pools in sand dune and saltmarsh habitats.
- Filling in recording sheets.
- Regular surveying between April and July.
Grayling butterfly surveys involve:
- Surveying alongside an expert to develop skills and experience followed by independent surveys should you wish to.
- Surveying sand dune and grassland habitats.
- Filling in recording sheets.
- Regular surveying in the middle of the day between July and early September.
